The Meaning of the Name of your Site:

My site is about kayaking in the Jordan River. It is a very big river that everyone enjoys kayaking in because you could see both sides. You can see how the Jordanian's live and how the Israeli's live.

Historical Background/Significance:

This site is so important because it's occupied as Palestine territories. In Christian tradition, Jesus was baptised in it by John the Baptist. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan takes its name from the river. The waters of the Jordan River are an important resource to the dry lands in the area and are a source of conflict to Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Israel which began in 1951 Syria border clashes.

Do other Cultures or Religions have connections to your site?:

The river is significant to billions of people from diverse religions and countries worldwide.

Connect a Talmudic/Biblical saying to your site:

Mark 1:10As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

Share any Midrash, Fables, or other “stories” about the site:

Jacob was renamed Israel at the ford of the Jabbok River, a tributary of the Jordan: "The same night he arose and took his two wives [see Leah andRachel], his two maids, and his eleven children [The Tribes Of Israel], and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise everything that he had. And Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and Jacob's thigh was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, "Let me go, for the day is breaking." But Jacob said, "I will not let you go, unless you bless me." And he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." Then he said, "Your name shall no more be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed." (Genesis 32:22-28 RSV)
